If you happen to be visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake, there is a little place you shouldn’t miss—even if you aren’t a serious golfer.
The Niagara-on-the-Lake Golf Club is a 9-hole course dating back to 1875, making it the oldest surviving golf club in North America. I recently visited, and honestly, the setting was spectacular. The course is right next to historic Fort Mississauga, with beautiful water views and just a short walk from the beautiful little village of Niagara-on-the-Lake.
What I loved most is that it doesn’t feel like you’re visiting a historical attraction. You’re simply enjoying a beautiful place that has been part of the town for more than 150 years.

You Don’t Have to Be a Member
One of the best surprises is that this historic club isn’t reserved exclusively for members.
It is a semi-private club that welcomes public players, subject to availability. Public tee times can generally be booked seven days in advance.
2026 Public Golf Rates
| Season | 9 Holes | 18 Holes |
|---|---|---|
| Opening–May 31 | $45 | $80 |
| June 1–September 30 | $55 | $100 |
| October–end of season | $45 | $80 |
| Twilight, after 5 p.m. | $45 | — |
Rates include tax. Carts are extra: $15 for 9 holes and $20 for 18 holes, while a pull cart is $6. Rental clubs are also available.

For someone visiting Niagara-on-the-Lake, I think nine holes could be the perfect choice. It gives you enough time to experience the course without turning the entire day into a golf outing.
And honestly, you’ll probably want time afterward to explore the town.
A Waterfront Restaurant With a View
You don’t have to play golf to enjoy the location.
The club’s Waterfront Restaurant, Lounge & Patio sits at the mouth of the Niagara River and overlooks the water, with views toward Fort Niagara. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the outdoor patio is particularly appealing during the warmer months.
The patio is open daily during the season from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to the club. The indoor restaurant lists breakfast from 8–11 a.m. and lunch/dinner from 11:30 a.m.–9 p.m.
It’s the kind of place where you can have a drink or lunch and simply sit for a while.
The boats, lake, greenery and historic surroundings make the setting feel much more like a destination restaurant than a traditional clubhouse.
One seasonal note: restaurant and patio operations can change outside the main season, so it is worth checking directly with the club before making a winter visit. The golf course itself is also seasonal.

The Little Town Makes the Visit Even Better
And then there is Niagara-on-the-Lake itself.
The golf club is only about two blocks from the lively Queen Street area of Old Town.
The village is beautiful in a very different way from Niagara Falls. Instead of the enormous tourist attractions and crowds, you get historic buildings, gardens, small shops, cafés, restaurants and quiet streets that are particularly lovely to explore on foot.
That makes the golf club easy to combine with a day in town.

You could:
Morning: Walk around Old Town and have breakfast.
Late morning: Play nine holes at the historic golf course.
Afternoon: Have lunch or a drink overlooking the water.
Later: Explore Queen Street, browse the shops and enjoy the historic architecture.
Or reverse the order and finish your day at the waterfront patio.
